Hackathon Problem Statement 2

Here’s a competition outline for evaluating students on their ability to create a Custom GPT effectively.

Custom GPT Creation Competition

Objective:
Students will design and develop their own Custom GPT based on a given theme. The goal is to test their ability to create a focused and intelligent AI model that remains within scope, answers all relevant questions, and demonstrates a structured approach.

Competition Format

  • Phase 1: Topic Selection (1 Day)
Each participant/team selects a topic from the given list or proposes their own (with approval).
  • Phase 2: Custom GPT Development (3-5 Days)
    • Participants train and refine their GPT model using OpenAI’s Custom GPT framework.
    • They must define system instructions, capabilities, and limitations.
  • Phase 3: Performance Testing & Refinement (2 Days)
    • Students test the model with sample queries.
    • They refine responses to ensure accuracy, completeness, and relevance.
  • Phase 4: Final Evaluation & Presentation (1 Day)
    • Each team presents their GPT.
    • Judges test the model with real queries.
    • Feedback is given, and winners are announced.

Suggested Topics

Students can choose from the following categories:

1. Educational GPTs

  • Math Solver GPT – Helps solve math problems with step-by-step explanations.
  • History Explainer GPT – Provides historical facts, timelines, and analysis.
  • Science Tutor GPT – Answers questions about physics, chemistry, and biology.

2. Industry-Specific GPTs

  • Legal Advisor GPT – Provides legal insights for students and startups.
  • Health & Fitness GPT – Gives fitness routines, diet plans, and health tips.
  • Stock Market Analyst GPT – Explains stock market trends and investment strategies.

3. Creative GPTs

  • Story Generator GPT – Writes short stories based on prompts.
  • Music Composer GPT – Suggests melodies, lyrics, and compositions.
  • Poetry Writing GPT – Creates poems based on themes and emotions.

4. Tech & Business GPTs

  • Coding Helper GPT – Provides coding solutions and debugging assistance.
  • Startup Mentor GPT – Advises on business ideas, funding, and marketing.
  • Digital Marketing GPT – Assists in SEO, content creation, and ad strategies.

5. Fun & Entertainment GPTs

  • Travel Planner GPT – Suggests destinations, itineraries, and budgeting tips.
  • Movie & Book Recommendation GPT – Recommends books and movies based on preferences.
  • Mythology GPT – Answers queries about mythology and folklore.

Guidelines for Creating a High-Quality Custom GPT

To make an effective Custom GPT, students should follow these best practices:

1. Defining a Clear Purpose

  • Clearly state what the GPT is designed for.
  • Specify its capabilities and limitations to avoid unnecessary queries.
  • Example: A “Stock Market Analyst GPT” should not answer questions about cooking.

2. Structuring Responses

  • Ensure answers are concise, accurate, and informative.
  • Use bullet points, numbered lists, or structured responses where applicable.
  • Example: If making a “Coding Helper GPT,” provide code snippets with explanations.

3. Handling Edge Cases

  • Predict misinterpretations and irrelevant questions and handle them gracefully.
  • Example: If someone asks a “Science Tutor GPT” about celebrity gossip, it should redirect or politely decline.

4. Testing & Optimization

  • Use diverse test cases to refine answers.
  • Make sure the GPT stays on-topic and avoids hallucinating responses.
  • Fine-tune based on common user queries.

Evaluation Criteria

Each submission will be judged on the following:

CriteriaPointsDescription
Relevance20Does the GPT stay within the defined topic?
Accuracy20Are the answers factually correct?
Completeness20Does the GPT provide sufficient and detailed responses?
User Experience15Is the interaction smooth, structured, and user-friendly?
Edge Case Handling15Does the GPT handle off-topic and complex queries effectively?
Innovation & Uniqueness10Is the idea creative and different from others?

Total: 100 Points

Final Presentation & Testing

  • Each participant will demo their GPT live in front of a panel.
  • Judges will ask real-world queries to test its performance.
  • The best GPTs will be awarded certificates & prizes based on scores.

Outcome & Learning

By participating, students will: ✅ Learn to define system instructions effectively.
✅ Understand AI model limitations and how to refine them.
✅ Gain practical experience in AI customization.
✅ Improve problem-solving skills in AI-based development.
